GEORGIA COLLEGE PRESS ASSOCIATION
is an organization dedicated to assisting in the betterment of Georgia collegiate journalism and providing a reciprocal
flow of information between its member colleges. Membership to GCPA is an excellent opportunity for print journalism students to discuss common issues of college newspapers and to network with newspaper professionals.

NNA We Believe In Newspapers Conference

Many National Newspaper Association leaders with a strong interest in the issues that affect their newspapers are heading to Washington for an afternoon on Capitol Hill, Thursday, March 14, 2013. Leaders will gather at noon for an hour's discussion of key pending legislation before heading for appointments with representatives and senators. One Valdosta State University student journalist, J. Daniel Young, has been given the special opportunity to join NNA leaders in Washington, D.C. and will blog about his experience at the conference.

About the Blog: vsudaniel.wordpress.com

"This blog is a document of the events surrounding the 2013 Washington, D.C. Fellows Program being held March 13-15, 2013. As a journalism student, I am blogging this for an advance reporting class, the student newspaper and for the Georgia College Press Association.

The purpose of the trip is to allow student journalists to work with experienced journalists. We will interview for and research a topic – mine is gun control – and produce a publish worthy article for local publication. The article is due in the coming weeks and I hope my work here will be a solid rendering of my abilities.

I plan on bringing all that I learn to this blog, as well as showing the fun and behind-the-scenes madness that takes place. Watch out D.C., I am on my way!"
- J. Daniel Young

This guide was prepared by Valdosta State University

intended to give GCPA members a quick guide to Georgia open
records/meeting law that can be customized for individual colleges
and universities. It is not a substitute for legal advice, however.
